Geboren am 27. Februar* 1861 in Kraljevec (Ungarn), studierte Steiner zunächst an der Technischen Hochschule Wien, brach aber das Studium ab und war zunächst als Privatlehrer und Goethe-Herausgeber in Wien und Weimar tätig, bevor er 1891 an der Universität Rostock mit einer erkenntnistheoretischen Arbeit über Kant und Fichte promovierte. Im folgenden Jahrzehnt trat er vor allem als philosophischer Schriftsteller und nach der Übersiedlung nach Berlin auch als Redakteur und Vortragsredner auf, bis er im Jahre 1902 der Theosophischen Gesellschaft beitrat.

Rudolf Steiner was born on February 27,* 1861 in Kraljevec (Hungary). He initially studied at the Technical University of Vienna, but broke off his studies and worked as a private teacher and Goethe editor in Vienna and Weimar, until he received a PhD from Rostock University in 1891 with a dissertation on the epistemological work of Kant and Fichte. In the following decade, he became known primarily as a philosophical writer and, after moving to Berlin, also as an editor and lecturer, until he joined the Theosophical Society in 1902.
